04/24/2024“What is Apollos, after all, and what is Paul? Ministers through whom you became believers, just as the Lord assigned each one. I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth. Therefore, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters are equal, and each will receive wages in proportion to his labor. For we are God’s coworkers” (1 Corinthians 3:5-9).
With our fall festival drawing near, the call for volunteers is once again going out to all of our parishioners to give of your time to support this important parish activity. While the most easily measurable goal of our festival is to raise funds for our various parish projects and ministries, a less tangible but even more important goal is the way that it builds up bonds of friendship within our parish and community. As we work together to make the festival happen, we get to spend time with our fellow parishioners, getting to know them, sharing our stories and our laughter, and growing closer together as a parish in support of our shared mission. That community spirit is then put on display for the members of the larger Erie community whom we invite to come and share a meal with us. They see and experience themselves what joy and community spirit is present here at St. Boniface and take that message home with them to share with others.
And this isn’t just true of our fall festival. I think of the many different opportunities we have at our parish to work together in support of our parish mission, whether on a regular basis, such as our liturgical ministries and faith formation, or for more occasional events, such as our recent brew club October Fest. Time and time again, the people of our parish step forward and pull together to make the work of our parish happen, building up our parish and reaching out to the broader community. This Sunday we celebrate that gift in a special way with our first parish ministry fair. Please stop downstairs in the cafeteria for coffee and donuts and to check out the display of information on some of our many parish ministries. You can also enjoy our first Hearts on Fire youth ministry event, a fall jam session with the talented young people of our parish after the 10:30 Mass.
As your pastor, I cannot thank you enough for all that you do, nor can I encourage you enough to keep growing together in your efforts in support of our mission. In this busy day and age, giving of our time can be a real sacrifice, but the benefits we experience together are truly worth it. Thank you to all who volunteer in any way at our parish, and let’s keep that spirit going at our fall festival and beyond.
