YEAR OF DISCIPLESHIP INTERGENERATIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

“Train the young in the way they should go, and even when old they will not swerve from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

We have been discussing intergenerational discipleship during the month of August, how each generation is called by God to serve his plan for salvation and how we are all called to support each other across generational divides in our respective missions. Last week we introduced our new family-centered faith formation initiative, Faith at Home. This intergenerational approach to teaching families the faith utilizes multiple resources to achieve the goal of helping family members of all ages grow in the faith together, with parents learning the faith to teach their children and children learning from their parents.

The heart of family-centered faith formation is of course regular celebration of Sunday Mass as a family. We encourage all our families to return to church to participate personally in one of our now four Sunday Masses (Saturday at 5:00 and Sunday at 7:30, 9:00, and 10:30). We are taking every required precaution to ensure families can participate in Mass safely, including the requirement that people wear masks, social distancing, and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces. You have less chance of contracting COVID19 coming to church than you do going to the local grocery store, but, if families still feel unsafe being in groups outside the home, Mass continues to be live-streamed and recorded, so you can view it remotely, including the new option of YouTube live on our parish YouTube channel.

We are very excited about another online resource to help families grow in the faith at home, our parish subscription to Formed. This online platform has thousands of videos, podcasts, and ebooks for people of all ages, and, best of all, it is free! All you have to do is create a Formed account by following the link on our parish website, then, start exploring the content. Mrs. Yaple, our faith formation director, has been working hard over the summer to put together packets of information for families that include references to resources they can access on Formed to support the learning goals appropriate for each age level. Every family who has registered for faith formation will receive a packet, beginning this weekend, and, if you haven’t registered yet, please do, so that you can receive your packet too.

Finally, we will offer several family faith activities here onsite at St. Boniface, beginning with an orientation on how to use Formed this fall. These activities will be optional, again allowing families the freedom to make their own health decisions regarding being in groups outside the home, but we do encourage families to attend as all necessary precautions will be taken. Please stay tuned to the bulletin and the faith formation emails to sign up.

We live in a peculiar time, but the timeless task of forming people in the faith goes on. Utilizing all the tools at our disposal, our goal is to help families carry out that task in every way possible. Please know that we are here to help you in that task, and please let us know if there is anything we can do.
